Conflicts in Anthem by Ayn Rand

In the book Anthem, by Ayn Rand, the conflicts are discussed in many different ways. The conflict in this story is man vs. society. I chose this conflict for many reasons. As Equality discovers light he is very proud of what he has discovered. At first he keeps it a secret. Then when he goes to tell the people they think what he has discovered is stupid and say it must be destroyed. Then Equality runs off with the box before it is destroyed. He is working against society to prove what he has created is really useful. They don't want to use electricity because they have just improved the candle and it is too soon for them to change again.

Plane Over Flew Destination by 150 Miles.

For my second PLN I chose to read about the Northwest/Delta Flight that overflew its destination by 150 miles. I do not like to fly at all and when I heard about this I was confused why pilots could get so distracted they flew 150 miles over their destination. The pilots say they we using their personal laptops, but as stated in the article one official said "Using laptops or engaging in activity unrelated to the pilots' command of the aircraft during flight is strictly against the airline's flight deck policies and violations of that policy will result in termination." These pilots were very experienced, they know the rules, why would they do this and get so distracted over doing this? Traffic controllers said they lost radio contact with the pilots over Denver, Colorado. When asked the pilots said there was "a concentrated period of discussion where they did not monitor the airplane or calls.” This can relate to me and the world because accidents happen, but you should always be aware or what you are doing and not get distracted, especially 37,000 ft. in the air. This helps me and everyone to learn to always be aware of your surroundings. The people should have known something was wrong, they were in there air for and hour and a half longer after they passed their destination.

How do words and actions influence who other become?

I chose two characters from the "Scarlet Ibis". Doodle and his brother became very close to each other in this story. Since Doodle is crippled his brother is determined to help to to walk. Doodle's brother takes him out to the field everyday to teach him how to walk. Doodle's brother influenced who he became by helping him learn how to walk. Even though his brother pushed him too hard, he still influenced who he became because Doodle did eventually learn how to walk before he died.
